Spiral welded pipe (SSAW pipe, also known as HSAW pipe). The pipe is formed by spiral submerged arc welding technology. Spiral welded tubing is formed using narrower plates or hot-rolled coils, which greatly reduces their production costs. Welded lines are shaped like spirals. The spiral welding process allows the production of large diameter pipelines suitable for transporting large amounts of oil and gas. Some SSAW pipes have historically been limited to low-pressure applications.
