Description
This test is applicable to simulating situations where various types of batteries are squeezed or punctured when they are in use, during transportation, storage, or when handling household waste. Batteries are considered qualified if they do not explode or catch fire.
The test should be carried out at an ambient temperature of 20 °C ± 5 °C. Place the fully charged battery between two flat surfaces and apply a compressive force of 13 KN ± 0.78 KN perpendicular to the plate direction to squeeze the battery. Once the pressure reaches the maximum value, the squeezing test can be stopped. During the test, there shall be no external short circuit of the battery. The tested battery is considered qualified if it does not explode or catch fire.
1). For cylindrical batteries, the longitudinal axis of the battery being squeezed should be parallel to the two flat plates of the squeezing device.
2). For prismatic and pouch batteries, the squeezing test shall only be conducted on the wide surfaces of the batteries.
3). For coin-type or button-type batteries, the squeezing test shall be carried out with the upper and lower planes of the battery parallel to the flat plates
