Pure glutaraldehyde is a colorless transparent oily liquid, soluble in water and organic solvents such as ether and ethanol, with a melting point of -14 °C and a boiling point of 188 °C for decomposition, a refractive index of (25 °C) 1.4330 and non-flammable. The 25% glutaraldehyde aqueous solution has a relative density of 1.066 (20 °C), a melting point of -5.8 °C, and a boiling point of 101 °C, which is strongly irritating. It has aromatic flavor, lively nature, volatile, polymerization and oxidation. It can be cross-linked with proteins and used for tanning leather, which can obtain excellent washing resistance and sweat resistance.
