Chemical properties
The natural perlite is a dense gray to brown glassy volcanic lava, and its main components are molten sodium sodium, potassium and aluminum silicate and 3%~5% water. After puffing, it is a white non-hygroscopic powder that is easy to break, light weight, bulk density of 0.032~0.112g/ml, relative density of 2.2~2.3, and particle size of 1 to hundreds of μm. The surface area is 750m2/g, insoluble in water, slightly soluble in dilute acids and alkalis. The softening temperature is 870~1100 °C, and the melting temperature is 1260~1350 °C.

Production method
Perlite bursts and expands under high temperature conditions (900~1100 °C), similar to popcorn, and the volume is more than 20 times that of the original. As a commodity, it can be added with food-grade liquid sodium phosphate or sodium silicate.
