AKD is an unsaturated lacone, a poorly soluble, waxy solid with a melting point of about 51-52°C. AKD, which is used as a paper sizing agent, must be made into an emulsion, and the particle size of the product is about 0.5~2μm. The emulsion is white in color and easily hydrolyzed, so the storage period is generally short, only 3-6 months. Due to the development of synthesis and emulsification technology, the solid content of AKD emulsion can reach more than 40%, and its hydrolysis and migration trends are greatly limited.
It is a reactive neutral paper sizing agent, mainly used for internal sizing of copper base paper, copy paper, archival paper, dictionary paper and high-quality writing paper. The pH value of sizing can reach about 8.0, so it can be called alkaline sizing, and it is widely used at home and abroad. The product can also be used as a surface adhesive.
